I watched the 500GB go from $99 to $120 to $150 to not in stock. I assume they are doing a refresh. Anyone know anything?

that pricing is going in the wrong direction if they have new product out soon...my $0.02

Sounds more like they are quitting the hybrid market

Probably because of the flood in Thailand. Seagate has some factories there. Lots of hard drives are being affected by this.

It's due to the Thailand crisis.

Hybrid storage is about as popular as hybrid cars, for the vast majority of users..

I ordered a 500GB Momentus XT from Newegg on 23 October. UPS said they delivered it to me on the 26th at 1:50 PM. I was here waiting. They did not deliver or even come to my house. I submitted a claim request to Newegg - UPS is impossible to deal with in such cases. Then, Saturday morning, at 8:30 AM, a nice lady from a parallel street rang my doorbell. She had my package. She tried to get UPS to pick it up and redeliver it, but all they gave her was a hard time.

I got the new Momentus XT. I then called Newegg and cancelled the lost claim. They seemed surprised at UPS. I was niot - this is the second time UPS has done this to me. It will be FedEx or USPS from now on.

Anyway, the new Momentus XT has joined my 320GB XT as data drive. The laptop is happy and so am I.

I must be missing something. The reviews are good, the performance is good and the price is much better than an SSD. I hope they make more, I should have bit at $99.

price is better than SSD... but much more expensive than HDD for very little gain.

The jump in performance for me was very noticeable on my laptop. It might not be as fast as my desktop and my C300, but the momentus XT has done very well in my laptop where I do need a good amount of storage and the speed improvement. It's a solid drive so far.

Performance of the XT in my laptop was very noticeably improved. The learning curve of the drive is about 3-4 reboots. Mine replaced a WD Scorpio Black. Boot time to fully operational was a mere 35 seconds. The drive is quiet and stable. The OS drive is a 320GB and the data drive is a 500GB. This really expands the capability of my traveling darkroom.
