Seagate SATA Striped Array Dropping frames! IDE drive does not?

I am trying to capture video from a Sony MiniDV cam with two Seagate ST3160023AS 8mb cache 160 GB drives. I drop frames every time I try to capture. My primary drive is an 80GB Western Digital w/ 8 mb cache. I can capture to the primary drive without any frames dropping. What gives? I spent $250.00 on these SATA drives and now they seem useless.

Specs:

Asus P4PE
512 mb Crucial
2.4 GHZ
ATI Radeon Pro 9700
Primary IDE: Western Digital 80GB (8mb cache)
Striped RAID Array: two Seagate ST3160023AS, (8mb cache), 256k cluster size assigned by RAID controller BIOS

capturing software:

Pinnacle 8
Pixela (came with camera)
Vegas 4.0

I've never used SATA but I'd check that there isn't some setting that disables DMA (like when IDE HDs are used in PIO mode instead of Ultra-ATA mode)
