My HD crashed a couple months ago, and have since replaced it. But I had a lot of data on the drive and wanted to try to recover. I have tried numerous things to try to recover the data, but I was never successful. I always new the data was there, and SHOULD be able to be retrieved. So, it sat for a while. I then found out that Seagate?s does provide a data recovery service and it is only $50 to have it evaluated. I figured what the heck.
I sent the drive in, and they just called to explain what they can do. The drive is mechanically sound, and it only has minor data errors. The guy also explained that they feel very confident that they could be able to retrieve all my data. I was happy of course, But he said it will cost upwards of $800!!!! I new it would be expensive, but WOW. I was figuring maybe $200-$300. I said I can't afford that, and please send the drive back.
So my question is. What can I do now to try to recover the data from the drive? now that I know that it is not in as bad of condition as I thought.
Below are the actions I have already tried.
1: tried ms scandisk. receive drive inaccessible errors
2: BartPE windows boot disc. not able to view the data.
3: booted computer with drive as slave. Drive recognized, but unable to browse drive.
4: tried pcinspector data recovery program. No luck.
Edit: added other forgotten actions.

OK as suggested below, I have tried the UBCD. I was able to boot using the CD and the cd can see the bad drive. But I have not been able to find a program that will scan the drive and fix any I/O errors. Does anybody have any knowledge of how I should go about suing the UBCD? If I go to a prompt, I can browse the conntents of the drive, I can see all my data, But I am having trouble copying the data. It gives a lot of errors.
