I bought one of these 500gb units. I monkey with my software a lot and was tired of reinstalling Windows and programs. I put a post in here a couple months ago about whether anybody had used one.

My experience with it was great. I backed up my main computer and reinstalled the software (including Windows and .exe programs) on a spare hard drive. It worked exactly as said. I am going to back up my other pc with Windows 7 and see if it is just as smooth.

I hadn't heard of this product until today. I'm glad to see disk makers offer full system image backups with their external drives. Windows 7 actually has very good system image backup/restore program built in, but home versions of Vista and all versions of XP didn't offer image backups.

There are some very nice system image backup programs around, but most folks never bother aquiring them. They make a hard disk failure, a corrupted OS, or a malware infection trivial to fix. And, and in the case of malware, the end result is a zillon times more predictable.

I wrote about my recent tests with Windows 7 and Windows Hojme Server image backups/restores here:

Bare Metal Restore on a consumer level device? I like the sound of this.

Edit: Yikes, only a USB interface? Do Not Want.
