Does this mean the possibility of 400GB drives, or are HDD's limited to 3 platters? (300GB is still pretty nice, especially if it becomes affordable).

Maxtor has 300GB 5400rpm 3.5" drives, how are they made (can they use 100GB platters if Seagate are the only one with them, or must they use 4x80GB or so platters?).
Anyone know?

The only capacity they are offering with this platter capacity is a 2 platter 200GB drive.

The Maxtor 300GB drive either uses 4 75GB platters or short strokes 4 higher density platters.

200GB decimal should format to around 186GB binary.
