hey dudes

for you guys with seagate hard drives
i have a seagate barracuda IV 80 gig hard drive and it seems very hot

anyone else have this problem?

and how can i lessen the heat?

It's only a problem if it's failing.. 🙂 However, if it bothers you, get an HD cooler..

I stronly suggest getting a cooler. I recently had a HD die a heat related death here at work (it was an UltraSCSI 10k rpm drive in a crappy external housing with poor ventilation.)

If it's external I've found the StoreCase Technology Data Silo DS100 to be outstanding. The brackets are heat sinks that the fan pulls air by. It keeps my server's external HDs nice and cool. As far as internal ones, there are a bunch that fit in 5.25" drive bays. You can find them on most on-line computer stores like cdw.com
