Just finished building a PC with all new parts:
Shuttle AN35N Ultra mobo
AMD 2500+ CPU
2 x PC2700 RAM
Toshiba DVD
Optorite 4x +/- DVD Drive
CoolerMaster Aero 7+ HSF
Round Dual device cables
Generic Aluminum case

I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro and it just will not install the OS. I tried using the Seagate Install disc first but that still will not solve the problem. I get this message when I try to install WinXP:

XP - line 7337 of the INF file\i385\ txtsetup.sif is invalid setup cannot continue.

And, when I try the Seagate disc I get this message:

please remove CD/diskette
push ctrl-alt-delete to reboot
X:\INSTALL>

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good suggestion I had some that gave me data errors on my raid setup. Turns out they were 24 inches long, 18 is recommended. I went back to the boring flat cables and things went back to normal.

txtsetup.sif errors usually come about from school type copies of XP where you have to make your own disc....I had to edit an entry in my school aquired xp disc to get it to work right.

I'm assuming this is not a "retail" cd

Let's just say I have installed this OS on a few other PC's without any problems until this one. Guess I will try the flat cable route and see what if that does the trick. Suppose it works after the flat cable switch will I be able change them back to the round cables afterwards?

Edit: I even tried to install a Linux OS from an ISO CD and still would not work.

Tried the flat cables back on the HDD and it still does not work. I then switched out the Seagate drive and installed a Maxtor HDD and that did not work either, all I got was a blank screen. This is making me think I got a bad mobo or something.

Funny thing is happening now though, my MS optical mouse light stays on even after the PC has been turned off and I don't think that was happening before unless I did not notice till now.

How am I supposed to tell if I did get a bad mobo? Could the IDE slots be bad and the other parts working?

Some of the newer motherboards can be powered up with a mouse click or keyboard key. If yours is one of those that would explain why your mouse stays powered up. I'm sure you could disable it in the BIOS it you wanted. I think I would try installing a different OS before I condemn the motherboard.

He already tried Windows XP and a Linux ISO.

I had the same problem, I don't know how I fixed it, basically I said "Screw this" and put my old mobo back in and just had the new mobo in my room for ~3 months. 3 months later I tried the mobo with some new components, all of a sudden it worked. I don't know what was wrong in the initial setup, all I know is that it eventually worked.
