Just curious if this would be possible with either one of them.
The only QVL drives for the Lenovo NAS go to 3TB or possibly 4TB, I think. Just wonder if the firmware has been updated. (The Lenovo IX2-DL still gets firmware updates, amazingly.)
Found the (admittedly, rather short) Lenovo ix2-dl disk drive QVL:
http://download.lenovo.com/lenovoemc/na/en/app/answers/detail/a_id/30797.html
It has the WD Red drives, 1TB through 6TB showing. My guess is that, if it is showing the 6TB drives, then it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think that it could support the 8TB drives, and that the list simply hasn't been updated recently.
I'll give it a shot, when everything arrives.
Edit: Well, with the Lenovo IX2-DL units I just got in, I installed two WD Red 8TB 256MB cache HDDs into it, and booted it, and initialized it, and the units recognized both 8TB HDDs, and created a mirror (RAID1) automatically. I then updated to the newest firmware. It came with 4.1.1xx.xxx firmware.
