Hey guys

I was recommended this forum, so I hope that I will finally get a solution to my little problem.
I have recently bought Seagate Freeagent Xtreme external HDD because of the eSata connection. Everything is fine except that when I turn it on Vista x64 does not recognise it (on eSata connection). Vista only recognises the HDD if I restart the system. Frustrating, right? Therefore, I hope someone has a solution or an answer to why it is like this?

Another minus for this HDD is that it has not got a on/off button. It goes to "sleep" after being idle for 10-15-20-30 minutes (it is adjustable), but it is not satisfying for me if there is not a reason for it to be on. In the software you cannot turn it off either (as far as I can see). Only solution is to turn off PC, unplug the power supply to the HDD.

Esata does nothing but bring a Sata port to the outside of your case. To use it you must have installed the AHCI drivers of your motherboard when installing Windows.

Plan B is to have your esata/hotswap SATA drives plugged into an extra SATA card. With it's seperated controller, windows doesn't need to install drivers on it to operate. Thus hotswap will work without a re-installation to put the drivers in.
