Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500GB.. slow

I recently started using Seagate 500GB FreeAgent Desktop external drive, which connects by USB2.0.

I can only get about 7.5MB/s I've had better throughput from a generic 250GB external USB2.0 and I'm getting about 20MB/s from an external Firewire drive.

Anyone else find the Seagate external really slow?

I remember reading about an issue with the Free Agents that have usb/eSATA connections. There was a firmware update available. It may just improve the eSATA speed, not sure about usb.
