Just wondering, what does everyone think about Seagate's fluid bearings? These Barracuda drives are amazingly quiet, and it makes me wish I had more of them. I am seriously thinking about replacing my other two 80GB Western Digitals with Seagates once I have the money to do so. According to Seagate, their fluid bearings improve reliability on their drives. Has anyone had any bad experiences with their fluid bearing drives? Do they possibly have a shorter lifespan than a comparable Western Digital would?
By the way, the two drives I'd replace are 5400 RPM 80GB Caviar drives. While they are not extremely loud, they are loud enough to be well heard over the rest of my computer. One drive in particular has a much higher whine than the other. My Barracuda on the other hand, is dead silent (except seek noise, but it is also quiet).
Hmm, or do people not care much about this?
