Seagate DiscWizard useless?

dighn

Lifer
Seagate customers can download this tool for free. It works fine in Windows. I can backup and everything. Paranoia drove me to try the recovery CD but it refuses to run because it says I have no Seagate HDs in my system despite having 2 of them.

After searching around, it looks there are others who have this problem too.

Is there anyone here who can confirm whether or not the recovery CD works for you? I wonder if it's a driver thing since all my HDs are SATA.

I don't know about the recovery CD because I never reached the point where I would have bothered to test them ... Seagate DiskWizard has failed to recognize any of the five Seagate 7200.9/10's I own & as a result I gave up & stopped using it.

That sucks. I guess it being "free" means they won't try to fix it. Anyway I'm gonna try building myself a Vista PE image and put the app on there.

I installed DiscWizard and used it to burn "some kind" of CD, which I could then boot off of and use to create and restore images. Not sure if that's the same as a recovery CD, but it worked fine for me. All SATA drives on a 975X.

an update just in case anybody else sees this problem and stumbles upon this thread:

turned out the non-seagate HD in my system was the problem. I had 1xsamsung, 2xseagate and apparently discwizard didn't like this. Removed the samsung due to other reasons and now DiscWizard works perfectly.
