I did the same, and my windows 2000 install started randomly rebooting. It worked, but would hang mysteriously and occasionally go whacko. All I can think is that Windows is just not robust enough to handle the change. If you think back to WIN98, it was barely stable enough to run for more than 98 days between re-installs.

A reinstall is what its going to take to get it right again, based on my experience.

As far as your 137MB limit, I'm not sure where that limitation is. But, you can help yourself a bit by partitioning. Put a 10gb partition out there for WIndows and Windows ONLY. Take the remaining space and divide it up however you like. Install all your programs on one of the other partitons, store files etc on another. That way, if you ever have to blow away windows and start over, all your saved files etc are safely on another partition, which won't have to be formatted.

It would help if you listed what parts you are using including motherboard and if there is an integrated IDE RAID controller.

With respect to Win2k, you have to have SP3 installed to support drives larger than 137 Gig.. not sure what the req on XP is though. Friend of mine just bought a WD 160 gig drive and had to upgrade his Win2k(sp2) to recognize it correctly.

If your IDE controller doesn't support larger disks over 137Gb you would have to buy a new add-in card and/or get a BIOS update. As for the transfering of files, I would just do a reinstall. They get fun after a while. :D
