Seagate Cheetah X15 vs SATA/II

Right now I have a computer that I built about 4 years ago and I had bought 2 Seagate cheetah x15 (ST318451LW) which are 15k rpm SATA drives from back in the day (2001?) and were expensive then. What I'm wondering is since I'm building a new computer, with an MSI k8 neo4 ultra, amd athlon 64 3800+, ati x850xt, etc .. is this harddrive still a competitor speedwise in todays market due to the spindel speed, or should I go with a sata drive. And I'm still kinda confused if sataII is even worth the purchase as of yet. Any suggestions as far as hard drive(s) and configuration are greatly appreciated. The system is going to be used for gaming and nothing else that matters (school).

OK, in my drunken stupor, I forgot to mention one of the drives is corrupted, so I'm only left with one, and I don't think I have the best adaptec scsi controller card available, but would you still suggest using the single scsi for the OS and stuff and buying a new scsi card?

The SCSI card is unlikely to be affecting performance unless it is really ancient. Current SATA drives will be faster overall, but for an OS/apps drives the X15 will likely still make your system feel snappier and more responsive due to the superior access time. If 18GB of space is all you need, then there really isn't much of a point buying a new drive. The dead X15 is still under warranty, ship it back to Seagate and see if by chance they send you something a bit more recent. Not common with SCSI, but even if they don't, you still get another working drive in return.

I have an Adaptec 19160 controller card right now.. I see a 39160 as the most recent from the short time of looking. 18 gigs is plenty for me right now, I have a 200 gig sata drive for mp3's and random files and I don't play too many games at the same time. So the 39160 would be worthwhile?

Absolutely not. That Adaptec card is already overkill for one drive that old.

That drive coupled with that (admittedly old but perfectly adequate) SCSI card will be a much faster setup than even one of Western Digital's Raptor drives. Definitely go with the Cheetah, I would if I had the money!
