just seen this reported on cnbc... seagate is buying maxtor for $1.9B in an all-stock deal... seagate was already the largest disk manufacturer, now controlling maxtor, seagate is truly a tech giant... as we all know seagate makes great hd drives with maxtor not far behind making this move wise and potentially very profitable... buy seagate stock!

That would leave only three mainline HDD makers - Hitachi, WDC, and Seagate. Who loses? The consumer! Less competition.

As for the stock - STX currently is rated as a "strong buy" by many analysts. The P/E is about 10.65 - not too bad. It is right now over $20/sh. If the acquisition is approved, it will probably drop.

Is this a hardware thread? Only remotely. :)
