I picked up a pair of 80's and they don't seem to fly like the WD's and Maxtor's do. However, these boogers are realy quiet.

I have a Barracuda IV 40gig running as my main HD, IT SUCKS!!! Sometimes it takes up to 10 secounds to open Internet explorer. 40gig WD run's circles around this drive

zzzz, thanks bud. Mine is very similar to yours, so it looks like the B IV's aren't favored by HD Tach. They sure are quiet drive none the less.

Adul, your cpu util is rather high

bdog, my B IV's seem fast, and IE opens as quick as my other rig does (ata133 raid0 d740x's). Maybe you got other issues causing lagg?

Nope, I have used the drive in 3 different computers and it dose the same thing. It's a 1 out of every 10 times type thing though, for the most part it satys pretty zippy.

Seagate 80GB cuda IV with Acoustic Management disabled

Drives are swapped back and forth on the same channel in mobile racks. Notice the ATA66-ish burst speed from the "ATA100" Seagate, just like zzzz. Everything's configured correctly. Seagate tech-support is stumped.

RalfHutter, that's what I have noticed about my Barracuda IV's. The burst is very low compared to the other drives I have used. I doubt it means much in real worl performance though. Never the less, I was stumped.
