Seagate Barracuda IV on RAID controller in non-RAID mode?

Guys,

I've been reading that the Seagate Barracuda IV drive has "issues" operating in RAID mode. Are these same issues (i.e. poor performance) evident if one simply runs the drive off a RAID controller operating as an additional drive channel? I'm going to be building a new system soon, and I've decided to build w/ an EPoX 4BDA2+ board, which has the HiPoint 372 RAID controller onboard. I'd like to run my hard drive off the HiPoint controller, utilizing it as simply another ATA channel. I'll then run my DVD and CD-RW drives as masters off the two i845 controller channels. Will this work, or will the BIV have issues running form the ATA133 controller, in a single drive setup?

Hi!

I'm about to get a new motherboard with integrated ATA RAID support and I was planning to populate it with 2 Seagate Baracudas in a RAID 0 configuration.

I want baracudas becasue everyone says they are very quiet, but I also want good performance.

Can anyone provide me with some more information regarding the issues with baracudas in RAID 0 config?

Regards

Ok, I'll stay away from the Baracudas then, or maybe I'll run a single drive setup instead.

Thanks!
