Great price. Just installed my Seagate Barracuda IV (40 GB) a couple of days ago. Really quiet!

I believe in my two years at Anandtech, this is the first time I found something before it was posted here.

Can you hear it when it's seeking? How does the noise compare to your case/cpu fans?

Hmm... throw in some amex blue loving and it'll be $100 shipped! Good deal, but don't really need a HD at the moment!

This is one hella good drive - I have the 40 GB model and I will pick up this one too. This drive is truly silent, can't hear it at idle nor when it's seeking even if I you put your ear close to it.

Ooh, I need a bigger drive. Don't have any Seagates and considering the new rep on IBM drives, I think I'll have this one.

I can not hear any spindle sounds. I do hear just the faintest sound as it seeks. My case is very quiet. I'm one of those who can't stand noisy fans. I replaced all my fans and the only noise left was the whine of my Western Digital Drive. The Seagate replaced that!

.
Would you give up 20 gigs of space but get much better reliability and lower volumes than another brand at the same price?
.
.
(wondering if this is the almost the same deal as another hd thread out there)

This is one drive I had been thinking of getting from newegg. Its a good deal with the rebate, although still don't know if I want to spend that much, as I hate rebates.

Not sure if I am missing something, but the rebate doesn't mention how long it will take to get.

I wonder who is handling the rebates for this?

Rebate is being handled by Seagate (or a representative of Seagate). Term # 11 on rebate form indicates that all claims will be handled within 60 days of receipt.
