The old rebate was $50. So this is an even better deal than it used to be.

PDF of the OC Register ad is available from here.

This is a great drive, I picked one up a while ago when it was $90 after $50 MIR. Still running great! pretty quiet too.

how so??? i bought mine for $139.99 - $50.00 = $89.99???

great buy if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the wd 8mb cache hd. not as good in terms of performance, but for everyday use, you won't notice it. and it's the quietest hd out there.

hmm.. i don't have a problem with this hd being hot. my case is running on two case fans and a avc sunflower and my case temp is around 28 C. i've never actually touched my hd, but i've touched the outside ide cage from my case, and it seems to be pretty cool. i'm saying, i'm not having your problem.

Hey. With the rebate expired, the Fry's in Houston just dropped the Seagate 80GB price to $109. You might be eligible for a refund of the difference if you bought it in the last 30 days. I bought mine 33 days ago. :(

RE: hot running drives...

I have noticed problems with drives running too hot to touch b4, especially when you have two 7200 RPM drives in a "standard" 3.5" hard drive bay, ie mounted 1/8" apart. I bought some "mending plates" from the hardware store and hang the second drive about 1" below the first, leaving an air gap. You can also mount a small fan (I used one from an old Pentium I CPU heat sink) to blow between the drives.

This is quieter than using multi-fan commercial hard drive coolers.
Cyberguys has several models of HD coolers, cheap.
