I got a couple of Seagate SATA 3.0 HDDs the other week and it was the same: jumper on default at 1.5gb/s; no jumper at 3.0Gb/s. The HDD should have a diagram explaining this.

I simply removed them; they are working fine.

there was no paperwork or anything. it just came wrapped in anti-static and bubblewrap

I'll pull the jumper, thanks
