I believe my drive (ST3400620AS) is an SATA II, 3.0Gb/s model, but HDTune reports it as using standard: ATA/ATAPI-7-SATA I. Also, the "supported" mode is listed as UDMA Mode 6 (Ultra ATA/133) while the "active" one is Mode 5 (Ultra ATA/100).

I'm noticing that the burst rate test of the drive is slower than my older, 7200.9 drive, which displays the standard ATA/ATAPI-7 - SATA II.

So, is there something I've done wrong with my configuration or is this normal? And how might I set the active mode to Ultra ATA/133? I just want to make sure I'm making the most out of this drive's performance. I just recently upgraded my motherboard to an IP35 pro.

Thanks.

For some reason the HD comes with the jumpers set to limit to SATA I/1.5Gbits/s. Hm. Anyway, if anyone still has any ideas about changing the "mode" of the drive, which is still showing Ultra ATA/100, feel free to chime in. Thanks.

what make and model of motherboard do you have, sounds like you have a older mobo with SATA 1 ports and not SATA 2 ports.

It's a new mid/high-end mobo (abit IP35 Pro). All the ports are SATA II. And btw, the SATA I/II problem was fixed. As I said, the jumpers on the HD were set to disallow SATA II. I removed the jumper and everything's good. I'm just wondering about the "mode" now. Thanks.
