Have there been any reviews of this yet?

And gdi, why do I have issues connecting to Newegg lately? It just sits there :(

FYI: buy.com same price as well.
if buycom usually ships faster than newegg, thats something to think about if you're getting it

many strange goings on with the oem's

has seagate changed their warentees on retail? I have a 7200.7 from less then 2 years ago, bought it @ BB. Went belly up 2 weeks ago, tried to RMA is, no go. I know they use to be 1 year retail 3 OEM. For whatever sense that makes. Now I got a dead retail drive woopie!

Damn, is this a better deal than the 300GB 7200.9 at Outpost for $89 shipped?

I'm supposed to receive that on Wednesday now I'm kinda wishing I would have gotten this one instead.

In theAugust 2006 Issue Maximum PC gives the 750GB version a 9 - with kickass review. Fastest drive to date on all throughput based tests.

My problem with buy.com is that in my area at least, they ship Fed-Ex super saver that doesn't require a signature on delivery. They have been leaving my packages all over the neighborhood with no note on my door as to where they are at.

actually, i believe reseller ratings for big vendors like dell, buy, amazon, and probably soon newegg cant be trusted. being that there are way too many non-savvy users and too much of the idiotic public buying from them, when they mess something up (shipping to another address, ordered something wrong, etc) they blame it on the vendor and give them a zero point review. that brings down the average, but reseller ratings usually works for the medium sized and smaller vendors

Thanks for the link

I cancelled my order for the 400GB PATA drive from Outpost (which may be a 7200.8 or 7200.9) for this one (same price) .

The review at Anandtech found that the 7200.10 was 29% faster for sequential reading/writing than the 7200.9. This should help for large file access. This was for the 750GB drive, but this one should be similar since it uses same technology and has 2 platters instead of 4. Early "Forum reviews" (StorageReview.com) have been positive. No official reviews yet.

My preference is faster performance over more storage (pretty much 30% performance versus 30% space as far as I could tell). Of course both would be best...... you can never have too much space or speed!

You are all welcome. I ordered 2 of these exact same drives from newegg ~3 weeks ago, which is (of course) why the are now on sale. Nice deal, too bad I'm already set for drive space.

I ordered four of these for $111 each (free shipping) plus an Infrant Readynas NV from AJump, and put them in RAID5. I feel a lot better with a little redundancy, I've seen way too many hard drives die, and backing my systems up to anything but a hard drive is such an expensive pain.

used the 10% off coupon at buy.com and got this drive at $106.17 shipped
thanks op!

edit: forgot to mention buy.com heh

2nd edit: looks like they shipped it, the kicker is they sent via 2 day fedex instead of 5 to 7 day ground, shipping was free btw

whoot!
