HI All

Just got the advertisements for Best Buy sales starting Sunday May 30th. They have the Seagate ST380013a which is a 80gig 8 meg cache 7200rpm 100ata drive for 39.99. Best Buy is also sending out 10% off coupons for Memorial Day. If you can get this drive for around thirty two bucks it would be a steal.

Addendum: This drive sells for 89.99. There are 2 MIRs One for 30.00 the other for 20.00

Well, as awesome as that would be... it IS best buy..

He said that the drive is 39.99 bucks, but with a 10% off coupon it would be around 31.99...

so if my math is correct it will be 79.99 with $40 MIR

coupons may invalidate the rebates on this one... just so you know, best buy is pretty gay these days.

More like lying bastards, and it's not a new development.....

Without a doubt, couldn't agree more.

I'd be carefull on what your willing to spend as opposed to what you think you are spending!

Where else can you get the coupon for 10% off? If I go to the store tomorrow (sunday) can I grab a coupon there? Was it a part of the catalogue or was it separate from that?

Hmm....its not a new development that rebate and coupon terms often contain clear language like 'may not be combined with other promotions or discounts unless specified in the terms of this rebate' yadda, so on and so forth. This has been the norm for as long as I've been redeeming rebates (10+ years). Like the following language taken straight from a current Best Buy rebate form:
All rebate submissions are subject to purchase validation, returned products will no longer be eligible for rebate payment. Items which have been competitive price matched, price adjusted, will no longer be eligible for this rebate.
Lying bastards? Or illiterate consumers who don't know how to read and follow directions?

You be the judge! 😕

Good point. Also, more than once I've used coupons at Best buy AND gotten rebates on the same item(s) without any problems.

I wonder which is hotter...$.50/GB without MIR (which can be found with patience and a little intrepid web searching), or $.40/GB with MIR (this BB deal if it plays).

I haven't been able to find an 80 gb drive for $40 which would be $.50/gb anywhere, let alone with an 8 mb cache. I got the seagate from bb this morning. =)

And why wouldn't BB/WD pay?

As I read the rebates' fine text, I noted that price adjusting phrase, so I asked the two BB employees up front to hear what they'd say. Both said that coupons were ok. Of course, the fulfillment center has the final word, but both employees seemed knowledgeable and both had the same response.

Congrats on getting the deal! I hope it plays out the way you want it to. Meanwhile, Fry's Electronics currently has a Maxtor 120 GB for $60 w/o MIR, and CompUSA has a 250 GB for $130 w/o MIR (okay, not exactly $.50/GB, but close enough). So, it can be done.

And why wouldn't BB/WD pay?
I'm not saying they won't...but in my book, any deal with a MIR loses points compared to a similar deal without a MIR.

I PM'ed Best Buy at Fry's today and got the drive out the door for $40 😉
Took a while because they weren't willing to PM the rebates at first.

greedy stinkin bastards more like it but rebates are for suckers

Nice deal on the Seagate drive even dealing with the rebate. I have never had a problem with Seagate or BB rebates. Thanks OP for the heads up I don't normally check BB weekly ads anymore
