Seagate 750GB Only $105.00 At mWave

Pretty good deal, these are the ES (Enterprise Storage) version which are more expensive then the standard version of this drive.

Newegg has these for $270

Not sure if I could trust a refurbished hard drive, I could just imagine filling one of these with all my movies and software then all of a sudden it craps out or something. Since these are refurbished it means they previously did not work or had something wrong with them, and this cheap price makes we wonder just how reliable these would be.

1st: Even though these are listed as OOS, I was able to "ORDER" one. When I selected "BUY", a new page popped-up (below) with the "Add to Cart" listed.
----------------
"If the "Add to Cart" button is not listed below, then this product is not currently available for advance purchase. Please check back with us on or around the listed estimated time of arrival. We do apologize for any inconvenience"
----------------
Of course if this is not available, I am sure they will cancel my charge card. Otherwise I will be getting a decent deal on an Enterprise Class drive with perpendicular recording.

2nd: I will thoroughly run this thing through a HD Diagnostic software to verify the sectors.

My opinion is that some of these "refurbed" drives have been returned for reasons OTHER than being bad drives. (wrong physical footprint from someone looking for a notebook drive, more noise than anticipated, even someone who returned a drive because they found it cheaper elsewhere)

IMO certain worth a shot (though be prepared to spend $$ for the non-refundable shipping charge as well as the return SH)

Thanks, OP for the post.

I had a problem with MWAVE selling me something listed as in-stock, then only notifying me like 5 days later that they were indeed out and that my order would be cancelled. Took another 3 days to get them to credit back my card, which they charged immediately upon ordering.

YMMV with MWAVE, but I won't order anything refurbed, clearance, or potentially stock-limited for this very reason. They're not bad folks, but they communicate poorly when there is a problem, and they haven't ironed out the business process as well as a company like Newegg has done.

Well said.

I hate to hear someone rip on a good company like mwave, which you didn't do here, simply because they had a problem with them. You're probably right, stock of those types of items may not be maintained as efficiently as the regular items, and its perhaps simply a weakness that they have compared to the finely tuned etailor robot, newegg. Hopefully their communication efficiency will improve in situations like that as well since they have been a solid company for years and provide nice price competition to newegg.

This looks like A great deal.
Hopefully, It isn't A mistake in pricing.
If it isn't the only bad part is that you - can / are supposed to - only get one. 😀

30 day warranty? That is pretty pathetic.
I had 2 new Seagates that died, they sent refurbished units as replacements, and they both failed. 1 in 35 days, the other in 6 days.
You are better off with the 500GB for $100 deal. At least then you have a 5 year warranty, and looks like you will be needing it.:frown:

Totally. And they haven't lost my business, I was only pointing out that I won't buy anything where I suspect stock is low (hot product, refurb, clearance, etc).

I buy all of this stuff on my debit card, since I decided I don't want to "amortize" frivolous purchases if I don't have to, so if they wait a few days to tell me they're out of something, then another few days to credit me back, that's about a week until I can go order it from somewhere else. But if I need a cheap card reader or misc parts, I'll order from mwave since it's not hundreds of dollars and they're likely to have their stock status be accurate.

Mistakes happen, it's part of doing business. Especially on razor thin pc hardware margins, I can't expect the world from a discounter.

well it is refurb, which basially means it was broken once already. i'll never buy refurb, especially for something that may be holding important data.

there is another theory I have heard, it goes something like since these drives have already broke, then the flaw in the manufacturing process for these particular drives has already been discovered and corrected, so they could possibly last longer/work better than a drive that has a problem and it just hasn't been found yet.... Just a thought,

I will be getting the $100 deal for the 500Gig myself...

how often does that theory hold true? in my experience, never.

Well, I've got a refurbed 500MB (yes, MB) Seagate SCSI II drive that worked for over 10 years, and it may still work, I pulled it a few years ago. I also had a couple of cases of refurbed/overstocked Seagate 9GB and IBM 18 GB drives that worked just fine for 4+ years. (I've since dumped most of the SCSI hardware in favor of larger, cheaper, quieter SATA drives since I no longer have enterprise apps running at home for dev purposes)

No, thanks. The warranty is what you buy Seagates for. Even to save 50%, it is a bad deal if you have to give up almost the entire warranty!

I had 2 new Seagate HD's die on me like that too...they were refurb, and they died 1 month after I got them back from seagate 🙁

deal = dead (item not on site any more)

also... not to thread crap but... hard drives are so delicate, would you really want a "refurbished" one?
