What happened with these drives? Nobody carries the 160GB any more, which is the one I want. ZZF and NewEgg have been out of stock for quite some time. Weren't there some issues with the 160GB platter density?

I would like to know. Seems like the 120, 160, and 500 are out there. They drives people want are not.

i don't know why you guys want these. anandtech did a review on the sata2 vs sata HDDs and the old sata's actually won the comparison. they didn't do a raid test, so that MIGHT be the only time sata2's pull ahead, but that's just a guess.

OK... lol

So what would be a good alternative? I need something reliable, quiet, and fast in the 80GB-160GB range. Should I stick with the older 7200.7/8?

Well, I was going to do a RAID test, and the drive was INCOMPATIBLE with my RAID controller. Would not work, even when I had Seagates tech people on the line, and we were testing jumpers to force the drive into SATA150 mode.

So I definitely wouldn't recommend this with a BroadCom BC4852 controller. I stayed with Hitachi, and haven't had a problem.

To the OP, if you really want a reliable fast drive then you should just go with the WD1600JS from Western Digital. This drive is smoking fast and it's a 160GB drive which is what you were looking for.
