So I got my new drive installed. Firmware CC1H, which is supposed to be the updated firmware to address the issues.

However, with HD Tune under the Health tab for the drive, it shows an extremely high Raw Read Error Rate as well as Seek Error Rate. In comparison to a few other drives I have which show 0 for those error rates, how could there already be so many errors on the drive before I've even written to the drive? The only thing I did was a full format immediately after installing the drive. On another note, the HD tune benchmark shows the throughput curve to be steady and no large dips.

The drive isn't even heating up as I got 2 80CFM fans blowing straight at it and not even warm to the touch.

HD Tune: ST31500341AS Health

Health Status : Ok

Looks like some of the headers got truncated:
Raw Read Error Rate: 53795883
Seek Error Rate: 44638
Hardware ECC Recovered: 53795883

These appear to be way over their threshold values.

hi,
i've got 3 400 sata drives and they all show really high seek error rates, and well as other high error stats, i have read that for what ever reason, seagate drives do this. i understand it does not mean they are bad or about to fail. They just read high in those departments. I will try and find the article, it was from a site that is credible in its research. Although high in the readings, mine run fine, fast and cool.

hi again,
found the article, down near the bottom is a chart, in the chart are specific areas of topics about the drives readings. these are for all hard drive but it points out seagate in the areas of concern.

Text

If i may quote,(Note that Seagate drives often report a raw value that is very high even on new drives, and does not thereby indicate a failure.)

They say this more than once...
