Very cool. Perpendicular recording is going to be the next big thing for hard drives. Higher aerial densities not only means larger hard drives (maybe 1TB by the end of the year?), but also higher performance.

Hopefully it will hold us over until solid state becomes practical, lol. :D

It is a wrong term. The right word is "areal". The fact that you found a webpage with the wrong term on it does not mean it is correct, and the entry you found points at the correct term anyway. It's put there so that even if people search with the wrong term, they will be pointed to the right one.
