Pro: Probably a very fast hard drive, especially the 16mb version. No rebates.
Con: PATA

Not sure how the price compares to others.

They jacked the price of the Seagate 400GB PATA 16mb up ten buck to 169.00 +shipping.


I just got this drive in yesterday. I put it in a external usb encloser. This drive is very quite. I can not hear it at all over my PC fans.

I bought a Seagate 300GB 16MB cache drive a few weeks back from Outpost for $89 and threw it in an external case... No complaints whatsoever. Plus the 5 year warranty truly rocks. I have RMAed quite a few HD's over the years (mostly Western Digitals), so I want as long a warranty as I can get on HDs...

7200.8 is widely known to have reliability problems... check some review sites like storagereview.com. That's the caveat that comes up in every 7200.8 thread. It's also widely assumed that's the reason 7200.9's came out so fast after 7200.8's.
