Outpost (and Fry's stores) is promoting the Seagate 300 GB SATA drive this week for $89. There is also a $15 rebate available for this drive (form courtesy of "OneStepsAhead")

I realize this is not quite as good the deal for the 400GB last week but it is still nice -- and much better than the current Best Buy promotion on the same drive.

Update: The price at Outpost is now $79.99 with free shipping. The price may be reduced at Fry's stores in tomorrow's ads.

Sad to say, I don't buy HD's from Fry's anymore. They used to have good deals on HD's before, but they don't anymore. They just aren't competitive on the drives I buy.

It's funny that this is the best deal I've seen there in quite a while.

Fry's is not my vendor of choice either but I discovered that I needed a disk the day after the deal on the 400 GB drive expired and this is the best deal I could find.

The rebate is, again, the Tour rebate, and if you used it before, it's a limit of one per household.

What matters is the retail kit number from the UPC code. The Fry's kit # they are selling is ST3300622ASRK, which is eligible for an 18.00 rebate. What some people are saying is that they are getting 7200.10 drives inside the retail kits for 7200.9, such as this kit, the ST3300622ASRK. The 400GB SATA drive I bought at Fry's was the retail kit ST3400633ASRK (a 7200.9 kit number). People buying this 400GB SATA kit also have been getting 7200.10 drives inside, but they are also eligible fot the 26.00 rebate.

This sounds like Seagate's silent refresh of the 7200.9 series. :D Link took a little while to find for me, but it works!

The rebate is good on the UPC -- whatever ends up in the box. I called the rebate processing telephone number to be sure it was eligible. The rep confirmed that the rebates still valid but the amounts are lower than on the list.

Are you on crack? Fry's/Outpost has the best HDD deals of anyone! Where are you getting drives cheaper??

Yeah, if you are getting better deals on drives let us know where. And not from some guy named Sal out of the back of his van down by the river. ;)

retail seagate kits are only 1 year (wrong, actually it was 3 years on retail, but now...)

edit:

4. Does the five-year warranty apply to internal Retail Kit purchased after the new warranty date, even if the printed box indicates only a 3-year warranty?
Yes, if purchased after July 26, 2004 the internal products will have the five-year warranty. Packaging reflecting the new warranty will soon be on Retail shelves. If Retail customers have questions about the warranty on their internal Retail products, the can access their warranty information at www.seagate.com.

Thanks Athena, I'm in. I needed a decent drive and the price is right with or without the rebate.
