Seagate 300gb IDE $149.99 - $50 MIR @ Outpost.com

NOW 149.99 - 50 rebate w/free ground shipping

Just purchased this; I've been waiting for a large Seagate drive.

For me 149.99 + tax - rebate w/ free ground shipping = 0.37/gb

Thanks VOODOO

Fry's had B&M SATA for $119 AR last weekend. I'll probably wait just a little longer when the new tech large HDs come out and the current 300-500 GB drives will go out on a fire sale basis.

which one is the newer type with the skinny cable?

and which one is this?

does "ultra ATA" = PATA?

sorry for my lameness

7200.8 series? Just make sure you've decent backups...this drive reliability is far worse than its 7200.7 siblings.

rufruf44, where did you get this information? Is it from a reputable site, or are you just saying "you heard"?

IMHO, a 30 cent per gig price isn't THAT hot. There's been 25 and 20 cents a gig sales recently. But if you need a big hdd, this is a decent deal for one.

139.99 -$50 now. I ordered one. After I sell my two 80gigs and a 40gig and rebate gets here I'm only out about $40 and I get more space and less power consumption for my PVR. Now I just have to get it stable (Both my 512 bh5 and 512 Hynix 5ns work fine at 200 2-2-2, but together they will only run 133 2-2-2 100% stable. Bleh! Of course they get only ~ 10 errors per pass @ 280 2-2-2, but MORE errors anywhere between 140 and 180 Nf2's sure had a crazy mem controller when mixing rams.)

Also of note. Ground shipping was $8, overnight was $13. Probably worth the upgrade for most people.

Edit: It's a NEW rebate now. So get it from outpost, don't use OP's link.

Only more reliable than 3% of the drive surveyed. The 7200.7 is more reliable than 89% of the drive.

Based on past threads we've determined that new drives will always get really poor ratings at SR. The ratings will only be good when the information is too old to be valuable in making purchasing decisions of current products.

In short: SR rating = junk in terms of making a purchasing decision.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I just ordered one for $161 + 2nd day shipping. It's going to go into an external Firewire enclosure.

What counts as the "invoice" for rebates from outpost.com? I have the "packing list" that came in the box, and on the website I can access my "order status." Is the order status screen considered the invoice? I have to send this rebate in by tomorrow...someone please help me out and let me know

whichever one actually lists the PRICE should be fine. monarch for eg sends invoices without prices listed and recommends printing the invoice from online for rebate use.

but i always assumed prices were needed, if someone can say they aren't, you'd blow my mind.

For those that bought 60-200gb in the last 3 years or so why spend more if your hd is still functioning? I have 120gb, 160gb, and 160gb. This is useless and a waste of money.
