 1 year warrenty? :(

I've had a Seagate 160 GB external HD for 2 years (same make & model, only diff. size) & a WD 200 GB Firewire external HD for 3 years. No problems whatsoever.

Not hot. The Seagate 300 gig external drives are known to have all kinds of problems, and if I had to guess I'd say that the reason they're so cheap is that Seagate is aware of the defect and is trying to push them onto people at all costs, rather than do a recall. I'll pull up the complaints on them if/when I have time and I'll try to link them here, although those curious should just google it, I'm sure they'd find something.

EDIT: a better buy IMO is the 250 gig Western Digital external drive that's $150 after $90 MIR @ Best Buy. Have one myself and it works great, haven't heard of any problems nor had any myself.

Not bad OP. Too bad I just bought the $99 (OTD) Maxtor 200GB USB external. I really wanted to get firewire.

Thanks anyway.
