I just got one and it is making loud awful seeking noise...anyone else who owns/ed this drive have this particular problem?
should i RMA it?
drive is working fine tho...just install win2k pro on it last night.
Thanks

I have that identical drive and its predecessor the ST318451. They make HELLACIOUS noise and I love it.... 🙂 These cheetahs are BULLETPROOF!! The technology spent in delivering a fixed disk drive that spins @ 15k for 5 years or much more gives me goose bumps 😱

Even the 10K Cheetahs sound like they're trying to communicate with you in a gutteral tone. I love mine and wouldn't replace it for anything. If it bothers you, keep in mind these are enterprise drives and are designed to be stored in server rooms, not offices.

I also have an 18gig Cheetah and they are no way as loud as the IBM's. The IBM reminds me of an old DEC SCSI drive I had before, probably 2.1 gigs and 5400rpm. It was as loud as hell and every few minutes it calibrates itself, it makes a high pitched squeaking noise.
