there's a 1 day sale add here in dallas for today on this... just picked up one for my mom's lappy backups... $50... funky looking and kind of large, but perfect for the price and job...

and they had 2 full pallets of them in the store...

picked up a 250 16mb pata internal seagate for $50, too...

Just out of curiosity, has anyone used the drive yet? Mine seems to have an abnormally slow transfer rate compared to my acomdata 160gb external...

I hooked it up and reformatted to NTFS, then ran HDTach. Sequential read speed is just over 35MBs, burst speed is 37.6MBs. These numbers are almost identical to my other external USB hard drive.

outpost is great. shipping is fast. for some reason DHL did not deliver on Good Friday (thought it was business day for them) and i had to drive 10 miles to pick up my drives on Saturday (bought a bunch of 500GB for my RAID5 as well) and the return for my previous 2 bad $100 500GB maxtors are already credited. pretty fast.

i am avoiding maxtor for the next few years. i had bad luck with both drives that i bought from outpost, and i found out 2 drives in my previous RAID5 setup had abnormally slow transfer rate which I blamed wrongly on the controller for. it was the 2 bad drives within the array. i am never buying maxtor again. i am aware seagate bought them, but seagate has been almost perfect for me.

dOH dOH dOH dOH dOH! Just got an email from Frys saying the item shipped already! Damn you Frys, why are you so fast?

just wait for a deal on a 500 GB PATA drive, and swap drives!!!

My roommate was just looking for an external drive, and this is a great deal. Thanks OP

Heh, I was thinking of just that! It's funny how there's a sticker on the case that says "No serviceable parts inside. Warranty will be voided if yada yada yada." Sure . . . ;)
