BestBuy had the WesternDigital Special Edition 120Gb @ 8Mb rpm7200 for 80 $.so i got one...it turned out dead so i went back to switch it..they dint have any WD @ 120gb...so i picked up a SeaGate Serial ATA 120Gb @ rpm 7200 ATA 150 @ 8Mb cache

Basically am asking if this was a great switch or not?
Or was I better off with the WD?

Also, what would I need from newegg.com to use this drive? I have..well probably had an MSI Kt3 Ultra-Aru mobo which is @ MSI Corps coz its dead.. i fried it..so they willl either fix it or replace it with the same model..which i doubt..or present me with a similar or better model...

So was I better off with the WD or not? Any suggestions? Coz i think i can get another WD 120gb 8mb HD...but I dont know whether I should..also when I do get my motherBoard back..It may not have SATA ports on the mobo..I also have 2 optical drives and 2 HD..so I guess I would need an adapter to convert the RAID port into a SATA port and then use an single RAID port as a regularIDE converted into a SATA port for the 3rd HD.

So my Q is..im gonna set up the SeaGate on the RAID ide as a regular ide port..with the WD it was easier since it was PaTa..now that im gonna prolly use a SaTa...what device or connector would I need in order to connect the SaTa drive to the rair port on the motherBoard? Assuming that MSI willl either replace the MSI Kt3 Ultra-Aru or give me a better mobo with same or better specs.

If its possible.. newegg.com would be a great place to search for adapters..

thanks..alot

Here's one
SOYO Serial ATA Convertor with Cable Model AS-SATA01
It's $20 each you would need two of them for both raid channels. I would go for one of these RocketRAID 1520 2-Channel Serial ATA RAID Host Controller. It's less cumbersonme
because the convertors need power plugged into them.

billy... thats the opposite of what I need..

the one u showed me is for some one with ATA drives and wanna use SATA cables..

I have the SATA drive and wanna connect it to an ATA port..

Promise has a PCI card w/ 2 SATA ports + one IDE port..

but does this PCI card decrease performance?

is there any reason to go back to best buy and exchange it for a WD 120gb 7200 rpm 8mb cache HD?

other than the different of 2 yr warranty between SG and WD which i dont mind ?

You are gonna need a pci card if you don't have sata ports on you motherboard. You can't turn your regular ide connectors into sata connectors on the motherboard. The pci card will not siginficantly reduce performance, since even sata ports that are built into the motherboard operate through pci. Unless, of course, you have a new Canterwood board, which you don't. So, if you want to keep the serial ata drive, you need a pci serial ata card. Or you could return it and get the WD pata.
