Seagate 120GB SATA drives

What's the difference between the Barracuda Serial ATA V drive (ST3120023AS) and the Barracuda 7200.7 SATA (ST3120026AS) drives?

The 7200.7 is slighty faster with a seek time of 8.5ms.
The Serial ATA V is slighty slower with a seek time of 9ms but has a couple more data protection features.
The rest of the specs are the same

interesting.

on seagates website, they make one
think that the V has fdb motor when the
other doesn't list that it does, but
on the pdf data sheet, it shows both have
the same sound characteristics....

only real difference you can see in specs
is one has one platter with 2 heads and
the V has two
with three heads

single platter could lead to better seek times/
overall throughput etc.....I guess.....

btw:

the non V version of the drive is available
at best buy today for 59 bucks after rebate

now my decision just got a LOT easier

The $59 BestBuy Seagate SATA drive referred to above is the 80 GB, not the 120 GB drive.

The 7200.7 is the next gex after the V.
The V would be 7200.6 going by Seagate's new naming scheme(7200 siginifies the RPM, 7 the generation, a Cheetah 15K.3 is a 3'rd Gen 15.000 RPM drive).

I'd get the 7200.7, it's quite a bit faster.
