I stepped on one of these bastards today when I was bodyboarding. I am thinking about collecting some of them next time and maybe have a little bbq....

Another good way is to pickle it in grain alcohol for a few days. Very very good.

Here's a good recipe:

Feed sea urchin to normal animal like chicken.
Allow to marinate for ~one week.
Eat chicken.
Enjoy!

Wow, that's a quality sea urchin, break it open and scoop out everything and eat it raw.

i heard you are not suppose to eat them during a certain season (mating season?) or you'll be poisoned.... is that true?

Are you thinking of shellfish poisoning? That's due to red tide though. Never heard of something like that in sea urchins though (they are one of my favorites).

Ouch

Raw, with soy sauce.

Blech!

I'd have to have A LOT of  before I would try that.

Even the beer will not help. Unagi is the most repulsive thing I have ever ingested. Not only does it taste aweful, but the consistency is such that you feel as if you have a mouth full of regurgitated food that you are trying to swallow.

search for Uni....sea urchin in Japanese. It's supposedly good when well-prepared and the right urchin and terrible when off.

The edible part of uni is mostly gonads.

So uni =aquatic rocky mountain oyster?
