SDS-Max Rotary Hammer Drill adapter to 3-jaw chuck?

I'm just starting to look into rotary hammer drills and am interested in a Bosch RH540M. This drill seems to only have 'hammer mode only' or 'hammer drill mode', but no 'drill mode only'. I see there's an adapter out there that allows it to add a 3-jaw chuck and remove the hammering action (model HA1032), so it sounds like this essentially gets you the 'drill mode only'. However, I'd like to know if there's an adapter that allows you to add a 3-jaw chuck and keep the hammering action. The reason I'd like this is to use a wider variety of bits...especially some bits that I already own. The range of the RH540M is 1/2" - 1 9/16", but what if I'd like to use a bit that's smaller than 1/2"? I understand that to do certain jobs right you simply need to have the specified SDS-Max bit, but I'd like to be able to use other bits so that when I'm in the middle of a job and need a smaller hole drilled in concrete I don't have to leave the job site to go to the store and buy a SDS-Max bit when I already have a bit (for a 3-jaw chuck) on hand. Does this drill simply put out too much hammer force to use smaller bits?

It will turn any bit you can fit in it. But it will probably kill a masonry bit that isn't designed for use in a rotohammer.
I'm not a fan of adapters with impact tools, just more things to break, and more chunks of hot steel flying around when it happens. Along with that, a rotohammer makes for a very heavy drill. When you get below 3/8", you should use a hammer drill.
