I know that there's a lot of price-fixing going on, but what is the point of all this price fixing? I've heard the news reports of manufacturers destroying stockpils of old SDRAM just to create an artificial demand.

A couple of years ago I wouldn't even think twice before upgrading someone's memory to support Windows XP. Now it's getting so that I hardly ever consider it. Is this what the memory manufacturers want?!

Does anyone still sell SDRAM for a negligible price?

It's still artificially expensive. SDRAM would still be *dirt cheap* for massive capacity if the industry had not resolved to raise prices. SDRAM was almost always free-after-rebate or $5-15 AR or even $25 out the door for low capacities of brand-name memory a year and a half ago.

I just need to add 64MB so that WinXP will install. Back then, I would have thrown in 128 or 256 MB to make WinXP happy at 192 or 320 MB.
