SDRAM question

PCBoost

Not sure about the quality or grade your looking for,but these guys are my choice for a dependable generic solution. I know they look shady but I've bought a total of 8 sticks of ram from them, never had a single problem. 2 are used in a linux server i run thats rock solid. They certainly aren't performance grade but if you just want a decent stick of ram for stock speeds and cheap, i highly recommend them.

Chalk up another vote for PCBoost. I am running 2 - 128mb sticks of their low density generic pc133 sticks in my win2k server and they work flawlessly. As it was mentioned above, if you arent looking for anything special and just want ram to use at stock speeds, buy from them.

In terms of a brand name, I would recommend Kingston. I have 2 512mb ddr sticks in my main PC and they have been great. One was defective but Kingston RMA'ed it and sent me a replacement in less than 3 days after I shipped them the defective stick.

Various brand names that are reputable include Corsair, Mushkin, Crucial, and Kingston. If possible, find out what memory is currently in his system and get the same brand. Stability problems are less likely with similar or identical DIMMs. If it isn't possible, then it's not a big deal. Most motherboards have no trouble mixing and matching all kinds of DIMMs. Choose whichever brand name manufacturer is the cheapest if you are unable to find a matching DIMM.
