SDRAM HELP NEEDED

I've got an Intel 810 mobo and I'm currently running with two 128MB SDRAM sticks, and I was recently given a 256MB SDRAM stick, but when I pulled out one of the 128s and put in the 256, I was told I was still running at 256, when I should have been at 384. I was under the impression the 810 could support up to 512MB.

Whats the timming on the both chips, is on Pc100 and the other Pc133. Did you make sure that the 128 did not get a little lose when you were messing in the cae?

Does the 256 MB board have chips on both sides? How many slots do you have on your board? If you have four slots, put the 256MB chip in slot 1 and the 128 (or both) in slots 3 and 4. It has to do with the way the banks are organized. Each side of each board is counted as a 'memory bank.' So if you have 2 slots, you actually have four memory banks (1 for each side of each DIMM.) Different boards handle RAM in different ways. See if you can find a manual for your specific board (if you don't already have one.) Good Luck!
