SDRAM and P4 1.6A Worth It??

Hi,

I want to upgrade to a P4 1.6A but I want a motherboard that uses PC133 SDRAM so I can use the 512K that I have from my old system. My questions are:

1. What is a good motherboard that supports SDRAM and allows overclocking. I'm not looking at much say 1.9-2.0 range.
2. Is it worth it to forget SDRAM and buy DDR?

Thanks for the help!!

I was considering going the P4/SDRAM route but I read that the limitations of SDRAM choke P4 performance quite drastically.

P4 + Sdram = Poor Performance
P4 + DDR = Good performance
P4 + RDRAM = Best performance

The answer to your question is NO.

actually the sdram system run and overclock very well.

if you dont play any 3d games or do any 3d rendering and you already own plenty of sdram, it might be a good option.

if you had to buy a complete system anyways - sdram and ddr ram system cost the same these days, so get the ddr.

Wow you're just like my cousin! It's 512 MB of RAM you have, not 512 K (he always says that, and it drives me nuts ;) )

Oh yeah, for a mild O/C set the 1.6A to 2.133 GHz ... trust me, it will be awesomely stable, and that way your FSB runs @ 133 MHz, and so does your RAM. The 1.6A can reach 2.4 GHz - 2.133 is no sweat for it. I'm thinking of trading up my 1.8A (@ 2.25 right now, not 100% stable @ 2.4) for a 1.6A @ 2.133 (and I'd get back about $100 canadian too!)

the asus p4b is the best (IMHO) for a p4 sdram system.
remember there is a optional multiplier for the fsb/sdram of 3:4.
a 125fsb will be 166mhz for the memory giving you some decent thruput.
if your memory can handle it - getting to 133fsb/177sdram will be easy ;)

:)
