I know this question has probably been asked a thousand times but I did a search and was unable to find an answer. If building a new pc right now would you go with DDR RAM orSDR RAM. I was not sure if the DDR motherboards were any good yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since the price of PC2100 DDR SDRAMis virtually identical to the price of PC133 SDRAM, it doesn't make much sense to go with PC133. And there are plenty of quality DDR motherboards available.

The DDR motherboards are mature enough now that they are very stable and the performance has been increased over the SDR stuff pretty well. SiS 735 is currently the performance king with AMD 760 coming in second and Via KT266 third. I would advise against the ALi chipset since it has not shown a performance advantage over SDR. A new version of Via KT266 s/b out soon and promises to take over the performance throne and then NVIDIA should have nForce out by the end of the quarter which promises even better performance.

DDR is a great buy right now. A lot of people have been using the Epox 8K7A board with good results and boards based on the SIS chipset that majewski9 mentioned are showing a lot of promise. Personally I'm waiting for nForce before I make the DDR leap.
