SDR shootout Request to Anand!!!

I Think Anand should do a SDR shootout. Including these cards; V4 4500, Nvidia Geforce 2 MX, ATi Radeon SDR, and S3 Viper just for comparison. Seeing that most ppl who bought celly's and Duron probably aren't going to spend alot of money on card above 200 dollars anyways. Just a thought though.

Good idea. I'd like to see that too. Might as well include the G450 in the mix as well

And don't just focus on 3D...do some 2D benchmarks too...at HIGH resolutions and not the 1024x768@16bit crap that we've been seeing.

Sounds like a good idea, however there is a problem with doing this review now: 2 of the 4 cards mentioned are not available yet. The Voodoo4 4500, while expected at the beginning of summer, is still not available to consumers or OEMs alike. The ATI Radeon SDR, likewise, has not really been officially announced, let alone available for purchase. As far as the G450 goes, this card uses DDR memory, just with a 64-bit bus.

Perhaps when the above cards actually become available we will look into doing such a review.

[edit] Humm, looks like some people are saying that CompUSA has the V4 4500. That adds one card to the list, but it still makes the most sense to wait until the SDR Radeon is available. [/edit]

OK, forgot the G450 used DDR SDRAM. How about a "value" or "low-end" video card(if you will) review? Even though they're not released, I'm sure there are beta cards or maybe even final ones.

Hmmn...the Kyro would be interesting...but I don't know if its meant to be a low-end or value part...I thought its performance isn't that bad?

Hey Matt, Can you overclock the cards to the most stable peaks and give benchies even though the Geforce MX would win as far as fill rate goes but the V4 and Radeon SDR Image quality would more than make up for the fill rate lost.

I agree that this is a great idea, as these are the cards that I would buy. Maybe a budget card roundup for cards availible online for less than $150? Besides the normal benchmarks it should include 2d performance and image quality as important factors.

GRRRRRR... Speaking of the devil, These guys just stole my Idea...[l]http://www.planetsavage.net/articles/budgetcards/budget-2.html[/l]

I think a budget video card shootout is a great idea. It would also be interesting to include a TNT 2 and a V3 3000 as base cards as many of these owners are wondering just how much would be gained by upgrading. Also, as far as the bench system goes, forget the Gig T-Birds and P3 933's. Again, in the real world, most purchasers of these cards are running Celeron 400-600, Durons, and P3 500 to 700 and classic Athlons 500-750. Would love to see such a report. (Hopefully on a Via chipset motherboard)

Hmm... i've got a celly 566 with a asusv7700.... so what are you talking about? 😉

Only one, I can't understand why someone would buy a celeron 566 and put an asus 7700 in it. The cpu would be the bottleneck in that system when you are talking heavy performance. Now match that with a 700 duron or athy and you would be balancing the combo out.
