I received a Canon SD450 as a gift, and along with it a Merkury Innovations battery. I am kind of wary using 3rd party parts, so I emailed Canon regarding the use of it in the camera. The response I received was:

We do not recommend using third party batteries because we cannot
confirm or guarantee how they will work in the camera. It would be best
not to use this battery.

From what I see here, they don't explicitly say it will ruin the camera. Do you all think it's safe to use the camera? I'm guessing yes, but I guess I just want some confirmation. Thanks.
