SD cards are able to attain a higher transfer rate. Also it is considered MMC '2.0' as they are backwards compatible.

Secure Digital is MMC with some encryption technology. It is not better for most applications. All Secure Digital devices can read MMC, but MMC only devices cannot read secure digital. Secure Digital cards cost twice as much as MMC's of the same size.
