okay so just bought the Canon PowerShot SD550 7 megapixel camera. I am looking into buying a Sd memory card...i think about 1gig...anyone know how many photos I would be able to store on a 1gig sd memory card at approx. 7mega pixel's?

do u knwo what uncompressed and compressed are concerning the photos?

it may be superfine (uncompressed) vs. the other sizes. It mentions resolution separate from compression so that's not it.

it may be superfine (uncompressed) vs. the other sizes. It mentions resolution separate from compression so that's not it.

so absically the compressed it what comes when u just shoot a picture and dont change anything about it on the photo itself.

no, that's not what I meant... on the Canon SD550, you should have a choice in quality between Superfine, Fine, and Normal. I am assuming compression is Normal or Fine modes while Superfine is the uncompressed.

Even using the supplied memory card, you can see how the number of pictures available changes when you switch between these modes. Normal mode would give you the most pics available (since it's compressing the pic a bit to save space).

Honestly though, on my SD400 (5MP), we use Fine (the middle setting) and it's fine for "everyday" use. We always come back from an event without the 512MB card full.
