my friend has a very nice pc courtesy of the home shopping network
this thing has two slots with 2 sticks of 256 sdram

im trying to upgrade him to 1gig but my corsair wont load into windows
normally it will freeze or crash and reboot during the windows loading screen
a few tries of safe mode sometimes got me to login screen,
i get system.reg(i think) errors. then crash at some point

i think i tried another brand of ram previosuly and it did the same
there are no obvious settings to switch sd to ddr in the registry
any suggestions?
ill try and determine the mobo in a sec

I'd run cpu-z and see what mobo brand and bios version you have. I would also switch memory slots and check the bios for memory timings. I use cas 2.5 and 6-3-3 for my smorgasborgh of memory (2 corsair, 1 ocz, and 1 pqi). Are you using the 1 gig corsair by itself, not mixing it with the old memory?

after some searching i decided to give the mobo manual a try
it said i needed to short this huge line of jumpers (48 divided into 8 sections)
in doing so it solved my problem

this is the most stupid piece of equipment
