Alright, I have this camera (a Fujifilm Finepix 3800) that takes XD cards. Somehow in the carea the pins that contact the XD card got a little skewed. As I was attempting to fix this, I noticed how retardedly an XD card is actually designed. The contacts on the card do not have seperator ridges between then like SD/MMC cards to. Thus allowing the pins from the camera/card reader to come in contact with more than one point on the card with relative ease. WTF? XD seems slower, and poorly designed compared with SD memory.

Why is it even an option? What advantages does it have? I suggest boycott this crap!

The XD cards pretty much suck, and that's why I refuse to look at any of the Olympus digital cameras any more (except maybe the E-Volt, which uses CF like a DSLR should), because I would be stuck using their stupid memory format that no one but them and Fuji use. It was a stupid idea for them to bring out a new card format. Maybe they didn't want to pay SD royalties, or maybe their engineers thought they could do better, but they really should have gone with the rest of the industry so we could have a standard card for portable storage.

I agree. XD is complete junk, they are slower, more expensive, and have less compacity (512mb is the max I believe). XD has no advantages at all over SD.

XD Is smaller, and cheaper for some companies to make due to royalties it comes in up to 1gb capasities and in general its faster than most other formats (the equiv of at least 40x cf cards)

I have the 3800 and have had no flash card problems with it for nearly 2 years. I have removed the flash card numerous times and used it in other Fuji cameras with no issues. However, about a year ago I had to send the camera back to Fuji to have the lens housing tightened due to the internal screws all coming very loose that hold the lens housing tight against the camera body.

XD are good cards.

I have had them for 4 years on two Fuji cameras......no problems
They just cost a bit more.

Don't believe the junk posted above.
