Hey all,

I've got an old Powershot SD200 (3mp) and am going to be doing a lot of video recording at CES. I'm looking for high capacity cards but don't care to spend extra for the high end ones if the basic will suffice.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820134029

The above card is cheap and got good reviews. Any chance it will choke on a 640x480 recorded stream, or will I be just fine with it? Thanks

EDIT

Well I found some 2GB high(er) speed cards for the same price so no worries.

The specs do not list the speed, nor is the complete nomenclature given by Newegg. Example, the Kingston SD/2GB-U2 has a speed rating of 133x - which equals 133X. That equates to about 19950 KBps or 19.9 MB/s. User reviews of the Newegg offering specifically cite slowness. For video I would go for a faster SD module. Also, 2 GB will not hold very many minutes of video even at 640x480 res.

With a camera that old, he may not have a choice - it's probably not compatible with SDHC cards.

No, it isn't, though I see some 4GB SD cards that might work.

I'm also considering a generic battery (or 2) over a $30-40 canon original like this one: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://www.bluenook.com/product_detail.asp?pid=1629">https://www.bluenook.com/produ...etail.asp?pid=1629</a>

Horrible idea?

You can probably tell I'm not an avid or frequent photog :)

Not a *horrible* idea, but it may be a bit of a crapshoot. Depending on who you get the battery from and / or who makes it, a generic might be good, or it might not.

That said, I've used generics for years in my two Canon Digital Rebels. Bought the batteries from here. They don't last significantly longer than the oem batteries, as that site may suggest, but they don't seem to drain any more quickly, either.
