SD card partition!?

My dad is having trouble with his 512 MB SD card. Windows says that there is a 4 MB "active" partition and 400+ space that is in some other state...I can't remember. Any idea how to get this to work? I tried formatting it but it only formats the "active" portion
 
Try fdisk? Or, in Windows, go to the Computer Management tool, and use Disk Management to take a look at it. It should show you the partition structure and allow you to change it as necessary. (It's in Administrative Tools)
